Subject: Sale of Folio and NXT 4 product lines to Rocket Software
Microsoft announced the sale of the Folio 4.x and NXT 4.x software product lines to Rocket Software this today. Rocket will assume all service and support responsibilities for the two product lines in the near future.
Folio and NXT 4 customers with current maintenance and support (M&S) agreements or current publishing agreements will continue to be supported. Current customers will also be able to purchase new licenses or upgrade existing licenses to the newest version of Folio/NXT.
Folio and NXT 4 customers with lapsed maintenance and support (M&S) agreements or lapsed publishing agreements will be able to renew these agreements. At this point, we do not know the terms and conditions on which these agreements may be renewed. Rocket Software will review Folio and NXT 4 pricing and royalties with the Partners over the next few weeks. I will update you when I know more.
Past customers will also be able to upgrade existing Folio and NXT licenses to the newest versions. At this point, we do not know how far back Rocket Software will go in permitting upgrades of older Folio and NXT licenses. It is highly probable that they will permit upgrades of all Folio 4.x and NXT 4.x licenses. (Folio 4.0 – 4.70 and NXT 4.0 – 4.40). It is less likely, but still probable, that they will permit upgrades of all Folio 3.x and NXT 3.x licenses. It is possible, but unlikely, that they will permit upgrades of other Folio and NextPage software products such as Folio siteDirector and NextPage LivePublish. Again, Rocket Software will review its upgrade policies for Folio and NXT with the Partners over the next few weeks. I will update you when I know more.
All current Folio and NXT 4 Partners will become Rocket Software Partners and resellers. We do not know if past Partners will be offered the opportunity to become Rocket Software Partners. We also do not know if Rocket will attempt to recruit and train new Folio/NXT Partners.
Gary Mumford is the new Business Area Executive for Folio/NXT software at Rocket. He will announce plans in the near future for Windows 7 certification and PDF support.
Rocket will provide Folio and NXT publication binding support. The new Folio/NXT Internet bind address is bind.rocketsoftware.com.
Rocket Software will host a Webinar for all Folio and NXT customers and partners on December 9, 2009. The Webinar will provide more details about the acquisition and Rocket’s plans for Folio and NXT. You can register for the Webinar at www.rocketsoftware.com/category/publishing.
More information about the Folio and NXT acquisition and Rocket Software is available on Rocket’s web site at http://rocketsoftware.com/publishing/folio-nxt-acquisition-faq and http://www.rocketsoftware.com/category/publishing.
